From ASCD K-12 Leadership Brief:

  • Principal sees his role as "coach" for teachers  Louisiana high-school principal Tybus Burdett sees himself as a coach who stands back and lets the school's expert teachers do their jobs. Burdett, who has been named as one of the principals of the year by the St. Mary Parish Principals Association, says the key to student success is to set high academic standards. The Daily Iberian (New Iberia, La.)
  • How good bosses challenge their staff to learn  To be a good manager, give your team members challenges that encourage them to improve, career coach Whitney Johnson recommends. Staff members will be more motivated and engaged if they have the opportunity to advance into new roles within the company, and are always learning and developing.  Forbes

From SmartBrief on Leadership:

  • Are you brave enough to act with integrity? Leaders brave enough to act on their convictions will lead with integrity and earn trust in their vision, writes Shelly Francis. "Being willing to tackle hard conversations within an organization, to make room for honest debate and differing opinions, is an act of courage that requires and invites integrity," she writes. SmartBrief/Leadership
  • Lack of alignment will stall your progress Leaders often blame a lack of talent or revenue for problems while ignoring the root causes, writes Alex Vorobieff. Businesses and their employees need to be aligned toward a common goal, he writes, with each person understanding what is expected. Lead Change

From the Main Idea:
Everyone is afraid of failure these days.

Students are worried that a botched grade means being barred from that perfect college.

For principals and teachers, delivering less than stellar test scores and grades brings fears of the wrath of parents, the district, or even the state.

The first is a book summary that is primarily for school leaders and the second is a BookBit to use for a book group with parents.
